Empire State Building Run-Up
The Empire State Building Run-Up is the most famous stair race in the world. It has been held in the Empire State Building in New York City since 1978 .
There are 1576 steps and 320 vertical meters (1050 feet) to climb . The goal is on the viewing platform on the 86th floor . Participation is only possible at the invitation of the organizer New York Road Runners (NYRR). The oldest finisher so far was the Italian Chico Scimone, who, at the age of 93, needed 49 minutes and 19 seconds in his 18th participation in 2005.
