Paul Marcus Crake (born December 6, 1976 in Canberra ) is an Australian stair runner and cyclist .

Life path

Before his career as a professional cyclist, Crake was a successful stair runner. He won the famous Empire State Building run-up five times in a row . So far, he is the only runner who was able to cover the total distance of 86 floors in less than ten minutes. He even succeeded in four of his five successes; the time of 9 minutes and 33 seconds from 2003 is the current record. Crake celebrated further victories in the run to the Sydney Tower , which he won three times, and in the run to the Taipei 101 Tower , which he climbed twice as the fastest.

Paul Crake began his cycling career in 2004 with the Graz Corratec cycling team . He won the Trofeo Bianchin and the Reith-Alpbach Radclassic. In 2005 he was able to win Chieti-Casalincontrada. At the GP Industria e Commercio Artigianato he finished third in 2004 and second the following year. At the Australian Road Championships he was once fifth and once third. In the overall ranking of the UCI Oceania Tour 2005 , he finished sixth.

In 2006 Crake moved to the Italian Professional Continental Team Naturino-Sapore di Mare . On November 11, 2006 Crake crashed at a stage of the Tour of Southland and withdrew a severe spinal injury to and suffered a spinal cord injury .
