Emre Arolat (* 1963 in Ankara ) is a Turkish architect and professor at the International Academy of Architecture . He is the winner of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture and the Aga Khan Award for Architecture .

Life

Arolat studied architecture at the Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi in Istanbul and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1986 and a master's degree in 1992. In 1986/87 he worked at Metcalf and Associates Architectural Office in Washington, DC In 1987 he founded the Arolat Architects architecture office with his parents Şaziment and Neşet Arolat, which existed until 2004. In 2004 he founded EAA - Emre Arolat Architecture with Gonca Paşolar and his parents . EAA today has 50 employees and offices in Istanbul and London.

In May 2015, the International Academy of Architecture awarded Emre Arolat the title of professor for his services in developing a modern architectural language.

Awards

In 1992, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2014, Arolat won the National Architecture Awards in the "Design" and "Building" categories.

Teaching

Since 1998 Emre Arolat has been teaching architecture at Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi, İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi , Berlage Institute , TU Delft and Erciyes Üniversitesi . He was also visiting juror at the Pratt Institute , Middle East Technical University and İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi .

Arolat Norman R. Foster has been Visiting Professor at the Yale School of Architecture since 2017.

Exhibitions

Emre Arolat was curator of the 1st Istanbul Design Biennale in 2012. He curated “Musibet”, an exhibition devoted to the social and technical effects of the rapid transformation process in Istanbul. EAA also curated the exhibitions “Nazaran… / With regard to…” (2006), “An / Moment” (2012) and “Fabrika / The Factory” (2013).

In 2015 Arolat curated the exhibition “ist-on situations” at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London.
