Emre Taner

Emre Taner (* 1942 in Diyarbakır ) was the head of the Turkish domestic intelligence service Millî İstihbarat Teşkilâtı (MİT) .

Taner graduated from the Faculty of Political Science at Ankara University . Taner has been with the MİT since 1967. After his function as department head of the Bursa region , he was promoted to department head of the İstanbul region in 1984 . In 1987 he was promoted to head of the intelligence department . In 1992 Emre Taner was Deputy State Secretary. In 1994 Taner worked for the MİT abroad. On April 7, 1999, Taner was appointed assistant operations manager. From June 2005 to May 2010 he was the head of Millî İstihbarat Teşkilâtı . He is considered to be open to a peaceful solution to the Kurdish question and has good contacts with the northern Iraqi Kurdish leadership. Emre Taner is married.
