EndeavourOS was founded as the successor to Antergos and is an Arch Linux- based Linux distribution that is delivered offline with the Xfce desktop environment . In the Net-Install installation, other desktop environments such as MATE , LXQt , Cinnamon , Plasma , Gnome , Budgie and Deepin can also be selected. Since the last release in May 2020 , the i3-wm window manager can also be installed.

Beginnings

When Antergos announced the end of the project on May 21, 2019, it left an enthusiastic and friendly community.

Bryan Poerwoatmodjo, an Antergos moderator, decided on the idea of continuing the community in a new forum. The idea found great support in the community and within a day Johannes Kamprad, Fernando Omiechuk Frozi and Manuel joined him in making the plan a reality.

Since Fernando Omiechuk Frozi has already developed an Antergos derivative ( Portergos ), the idea arose to create a new distribution on this basis and to develop it together with the community.

Within a week, the team presented the plan to the community and started developing the distribution, website and forum.

development

With the sudden end of the Antergos project, the team came up with a plan to create a distribution that is easy to maintain by keeping the repository small and offering a near- Arch Linux experience with the convenience of an installer and live CD with graphical desktop environment.

Since the Antergos ( cnchi ) installer could not be used for the new distribution without great effort, the developers resorted to Calamares .

The main idea is to give the user the freedom to create a system for their specific needs and learn the system by installing the packages they want themselves with the help of the friendly and warm community.

target group

The development team made a conscious decision to address a target group who either have already used Arch Linux but want a quick and easy installation, or the "distro hoppers" who already have some Linux knowledge but want to explore Archlinux without the manual installation procedure of the basic distribution.

Since no GUI package manager is shipped by default, the team believes that the user will know better what they are installing and therefore have more control over the installed system. It doesn't matter whether the user opts for "pure Arch", uses GUI apps like Pamac or Octopi, or uses sandbox solutions like Snaps or Flatpak. The user decides for himself how to set up his system.

First publication

On July 15, 2019, EndeavorOS published the first ISO .

Net-install

Immediately after starting work on the distribution, the EndeavorOS team began developing a network installation program for users who install other desktop environments or who want to be always up to date with the latest package sources during installation .

The release of the Net-Installer was reported on December 23, 2019. Net installer released

Online presence

EndeavourOS offers a help forum, a wiki collection with help for setting up and an online magazine with articles about distribution and Linux in general.
