Antergos is a former Linux distribution from Galicia based on the Arch Linux operating system . Antergos also adopted the rolling release principle from this distribution . As a live system , Antergos  set up the Gnome 3 desktop environment as the standard. When installing Antergos, KDE , Cinnamon , MATE , Openbox , Xfce or Deepin Desktop Environment were also available. In July 2012 Antergos was started as Cinnarch and has been listed among the 5 most popular distributions of the last 12 months on DistroWatch since 2017 . The Galician word Antergos (meaning: ancestors ) was chosen to connect the past with the present.

History and Development

The project started as Cinnarch with the desktop environment Cinnamon , a fork of the Gnome Shell . In April 2013, the team moved from Cinnamon to GNOME version 3.6 because of difficulties with Cinnamon due to compatibility issues with GTK libraries. Accordingly, the distribution was renamed Antergos and published under the new name in May 2013. The development of the distribution was stopped on May 21, 2019. Some antergos-specific packets were transferred to the AUR. EndeavorOS was founded as the successor to Antergos .

installation

In addition to a text-based installation program, Antergos also offered the graphics-based Cnchi . The corresponding live medium started in the Gnome desktop, offered the option of choosing between the desktop environments Openbox , Gnome 3 , KDE , Cinnamon , Xfce , Mate and Deepin Desktop Environment during installation . A network connection was required to start the installation.

Package management

Antergos was based on Arch Linux and the rolling release model. In addition to the official Arch Linux package sources , Antergos also used the AUR and its own software repositories. As with Arch Linux , pacman was used as a package manager.
