As end-time churches those Christian communities are called, which the imminent return of Christ expect and therefore their time as end time understand. In the last book of the Bible (Revelation chapter 3, from verse 14) in the letter to the church in Laodicea, the end-time church is described from the point of view of Jesus ( lukewarmness , nakedness, blindness).

With the imminent return of Jesus Christ, end-time churches await the millennial kingdom that will follow . In the New Testament , Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 are chapters that tell of the end times.

The return of Jesus was a predominant doctrine in early Christianity . The early Christian theologian Justin the Martyr died as a martyr for the Christian belief in the resurrection. The Holy Irenaeus of Lyons expected end time teaching to the church creeds and all other faiths to the " heretics ". Even church fathers like Tertullian and Cyprian have proclaimed the doctrine of the last days. The Taborites formed actual end-time communities . Chiliastic Anabaptists caused a sensation in the 16th century. In 1830 the newly formed Catholic-Apostolic congregations awaited the return of Christ.

The modern end-time churches include the Adventists , the Free Bible Students , Jehovah's Witnesses, and the fellowship in Christ Jesus .
