Eschatological speech of Jesus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The eschatological discourse of Jesus , the eschatological discourse of Jesus or talk about the end times is a longer, coherent sermon that Jesus of Nazareth on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem is said to have addressed to his disciples. The discourse is narrated in Matthew 24-25, Mark 13, and Luke 21 : 5-36. It revolves around the future of the world, the Great Tribulation , “the ultimate / last things” and the Last Judgment (hence also called eschatological speech, i.e. speech of the last things). The speech contains several parables that Jesus used to refer to his impending death and return . It has been handed down as his last speech and the last instruction of his disciples before his death; in the Gospel of Matthew the passion story follows immediately .

structure

According to the question of the disciples in Mt 24.3  EU , Mk 13.4  EU and Lk 21.7  EU, the speech can be divided into two parts (here according to Matthew):

  1. Information on the time of the destruction of the temple ; see. Mt 24 : 1-2  EU
  2. Sign of the second coming of Christ and the end of the world
