The Enemalta Corporation ( EMC ) is the only Maltese power company and currently employs about 2,000 people. It is responsible for the import of oil and gas as well as for the generation and feeding of electricity into the Maltese power grid. Enemalta operates the Maltese power station Delimara (444 MW , commissioning 1992). The Marsa power plant (267 MW, commissioned in 1966) will be gradually shut down from October 2014. Since April 2015 there has been a connection to the Italian power grid with a capacity of 200 MW with the high voltage line Malta-Sicily .

In addition, a power plant in Floriana (1896 to 1960), a power plant in Corradino (1939 to 1992) and Station A in Marsa (1953 to 1993) were operated by Enemalta until they were shut down .

Since Malta does not have its own resources, Enemalta relies entirely on imported fuels, especially heavy heating oil. In 2006, Enemalta's two power plants produced 2,261,189 MWh and released 0.8782 kg of CO 2 for each kilowatt-hour produced .
