The Kingdom of EnenKio (actually, correctly: eneen-kio ) was a micronation that was supposedly proclaimed by separatist residents of the Marshall Islands . EnenKio claimed the atoll Wake , which is an American outland under international law . American authorities viewed the proclamation of the state , which existed only on the Internet , as an attempt to generate funds in the form of advance fraud by selling fictitious government bonds amounting to one billion US dollars , granting licenses and granting citizenships for a fee . In addition, according to the American drug control agency, EnenKio should serve as a money laundering center. The United States, through its United States Securities and Exchange Commission , ended the activities of the citizens of the United States and the Bahamas, who were behind the alleged local chiefs .

history

That claimed Atoll Wake

Wake covers a total area of approx. 6.5 km². The next Atoll is located about 480 kilometers south of the Marshall Islands belonging Bokak Atoll Atoll . In 1568, Wake was discovered by the Spaniard Álvaro de Mendaña de Neira . In 1796 the British schooner Prince William Henry visited the atoll; it was then named after its captain William Wake . In 1899, Wake was annexed by the United States . In 1935, a landing pad was built on Wake Island, which served as a stopover for civil flight routes to Asia . During the Second World War , the Battle of Wake between the USA and Japan took place on Wake . Since then, Wake has been used as a base for the US Air Force .

The kingdom of EnenKio was allegedly proclaimed in 1994 by the chief Murjel Hermios . After his death in December 1998, his brother Remios Hermios became king. Allegedly, the claims to the wake, which was uninhabited until the 20th century, are based on oral traditions of the Marshallese population, according to which they were the first to set foot on the island and the current "king" is a direct descendant of one of these travelers. The government of the Marshall Islands denied this in 1998:

“The representatives making claims of separate sovereignty are not citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and have no right to make claims on behalf of Marshallese landowners. Furthermore, these representatives are making fraudulent assertions that violate the Republic of the Marshall Islands' constitutio. "

“Representatives who make claims to sovereignty are not citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and have no right to make claims on behalf of Marshal landowners. In addition, these agents make fraudulent claims that violate the Marshall Islands Constitution. "

EnenKio was not recognized by any country in the world .

In terms of personnel, the inventors and representatives of EnenKio were partly identical to those of the fictional Dominion of Melchizedek, which also serves criminal purposes . Their approach was based on the also fictional Caribbean state of Poyais , which the general of the South American Wars of Independence and later impostor Gregor MacGregor marketed in Europe in the 19th century .
