Ener Julio (born October 14, 1973 in Cartagena ) is a former Colombian professional boxer and world champion of the WBO and IBO in the light welterweight division.

Career

He started professional boxing in 1994 and won ten build-up fights, nine of which by knockout. In January 1996 he was defeated on points against the three-time World Cup challenger Héctor López . In his subsequent nine fights, he emerged as the winner eight times, including against IBO World Champion Newton Villarreal and the two-time World Championship challenger Wilfrido Rocha. Against David Ojeda he won the IBO World Light Welterweight Championship in September 1998, which he was able to defend against Luis Flores.

In July 2000 he entered the fight for the WBO world light welterweight title with a record of 22 wins (17 knockout) and 3 defeats and secured the title in Miami by beating Randall Bailey (21-0, 21 K. o.). In January 2002, however, he lost the title in the first defense by losing points to DeMarcus Corley (26-1, 16 K. o.), To whom he was already defeated in a fight in 1999.

He boxed a draw against Saul Duran in August 2002. He then played eight more fights with two wins, four losses and two draws. He suffered one of the defeats in May 2004 against David Díaz .
