The Energy Research Center of the Netherlands ( ECN ) is the largest Dutch research center for renewable energies and is based in Petten, North Holland . It was founded in 1955.

There are about 600 employees (2011); 300 people are employed in the Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group (NRG), a joint venture between ECN and KEMA . The facility is located with the Joint Research Center (Dutch: Gemeenschappelijk Centrum voor Onderzoek (GCO)) of the European Commission and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals in the dunes of Petten.
