Remzi Musaoğlu (born January 25, 1965 in Kirdjali , Bulgaria ) is a former Turkish wrestler . He was the 1993 European bantamweight champion in free style.

Career

Remzi Musaoğlu was born in Bulgaria as a member of the Turkish minority . There he also began wrestling in 1977. As an adult, the 1.65 meter tall athlete always started in bantamweight, the weight class up to 57 kg body weight. He only wrestled in free style. Only so much is known about his career as a wrestler in Bulgaria that he did not belong to the Bulgarian national team during those years and therefore did not compete in any international championships.

In 1990 he emigrated to Turkey and was immediately one of the best Turkish bantamweight freestyle wrestlers. He became a member of the Istanbul Gemi Sanayi Kulübünde , a company club and coached there by Osman Alanbey and in the national team of Ismail Nizamoglu.

As early as 1991 he was runner-up in the European bantamweight championship in Stuttgart , where he was evidently even cheated out of the European title. In the journal Der Ringer , No. 5/1991, page 13 it says: "To make it short: The Soviet man Bagautdin Umachanow received the title because the Turk Remzi Musaoğlu was cheated of two points by an incompetent mat leader (in Final)."

At the 1991 World Cup in Varna , Remzi Musaoğlu was eliminated with a defeat in the first fight and only finished 19th.

At the European Championships in 1992 in Kaposvár he was again in the bantamweight finals from Bagautdin Umachanow with 5: 3 techn. Points beaten, but this time everything seemed to be right. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , Remzi Musaoğlu narrowly missed a medal with fourth place. He had missed the entry into the final by a point defeat against the eventual Olympic champion Alejandro Puerto Díaz . In the fight for the bronze medal he had to admit defeat to the South Korean Kim Jong-sik.

In 1993 he finally won his first title. He was European champion in Istanbul ahead of world champion Sjarhej Smal from Belarus and Abdulasis Asisow from Kyrgyzstan . In the final he beat Smal 5-2 techn. Points. He was not at the start at the World Championships that year in Toronto .

At the European Championships in Rome in 1994 , Remzi Musaoğlu failed in his pool due to a defeat against Nazim Aliosanow from Azerbaijan and only came in 9th place.

After this championship he came to no more assignments in international championships. The Turkish Wrestling Association relied on Ismail Zurnacci , Muharrem Demiregen and Harun Doğan in the bantamweight division . Remzi Musaoğlu, who had completed a degree in physical education, became a wrestling trainer in Izmir .
