The KEMA is a testing of the electrical industry in Arnhem in the Netherlands .

history

KEMA was founded in 1927 by provincial authorities, local authorities and energy suppliers in Arnhem. The acronym KEMA stands for Keuring van Elektrotechnische Materialen te Arnhem (de: Inspection of electrical equipment in Arnhem). The company was owned by several Dutch energy providers . The laboratories were opened by Prince Bernhard in 1938 and expanded in 1939. The four generators in the laboratory can achieve a total output of 8,400 megavolt amperes , which is why this laboratory is the largest short-circuit laboratory in the world. For communication between the substations , KEMA built the KEMA gates in Arnhem in 1969 .

In December 2013, KEMA merged with DNV, Garrad Hassan and GL Renewables Certification and has been operating under the DNV GL brand ever since . “KEMA” will continue to be used as the certificate logo

On December 30, 2019, CESI SpA acquired ownership of KEMA BV from DNV GL. The acquisition includes all high voltage testing, inspection and certification activities that were carried out in KEMA's own laboratories in Arnhem (Netherlands) and Prague (Czech Republic). The transaction closed on March 2, 2020 with the acquisition of the KEMA laboratory in Chalfont (USA).

tasks

The KEMA test and inspection systems include the world's largest high-performance laboratory with the highest short-circuit power of 10,000 MVA and the world's first laboratory that can test ultra-high voltage components on super grids, as well as the Flex Power Grid Laboratory, for advanced tests of smart grids Components.

KEMA advises and supports official organizations, manufacturers, suppliers and consumers. The KEMA-KEUR mark issued by KEMA confirms to the consumer that the tested product is safe. KEMA Quality, which tests and certifies low-voltage systems , electrotechnical components, electronic and medical products and management systems, was sold to DEKRA in 2009 . In addition, the company also tests and certifies products, systems and people for a wide range of clients.
