Engelbert of Tecklenburg

Engelbert von Tecklenburg († 1301 ) was provost of the cathedral in the prince-bishopric of Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Engelbert von Tecklenburg was the son of Count Otto III. von Tecklenburg (1253–1285) and Richarde von der Mark, daughter of Count  Engelbert I,  born. The Counts of Tecklenburg originally came from the old line of the Gerulfinger , the first Counts of West Friesland and Holland . He had four siblings, including Otto , the last of the Bentheim counts in Tecklenburg (died 1307). His grandfather was Count Otto II.

Career and work

Engelbert was elected canon in Osnabrück in 1294 and two years later - in 1296 - as provost of the cathedral in Münster. He stayed in this office until 1301. His successor was Wikbold von Lohn , who took up the office in 1307.
