The Enge Krambuden is a former street in Lübeck's old town .

location

The approximately 50 meter long Enge Krambuden was in the center of the old town island, in the Marien Quartier . It connected the southern Marienkirchhof with the Markttwiete on the northern edge of the market , with the town hall occupying the east side of the street along its entire length .

history

The street was first mentioned in a document in 1318 as Kemmerbodae , derived from the merchants' stalls located here . In 1329 the name was Crambodae in opposito domus pannorum (Krambuden opposite the Cloth Hall ), since today's stock exchange building of the town hall, which borders on the Narrow Krambuden, was assigned to the cloth merchants as a clothing store at that time. In 1406 Enger Kramboden was used as a name for the first time , in 1440 the name was then simply Kramboden , 1441 Kemmerstrate (Krämerstraße) and 1448 Parva Cramboda (Kleine Krambude). In 1852, Enger Krambuden was officially set as the street name.

The narrow alley was completely destroyed in the bombing of 1942 and not restored during the reconstruction in the 1950s . Its previous course is now overbuilt.
