Engin Sincer
Engin Sincer ( battle name : Erdal) (born March 2, 1969 in Kahramanmaraş ; † August 18, 2003 in the Kandil Mountains ) was a high-ranking member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). He was killed in an unexplained manner and is venerated as a martyr by the underground organization .
Life
Engin Sincer came to Mainz with his family from Turkey as a small child. There he also graduated from high school. In 1988/89, Sincer joined the PKK. He received his first party training in Europe in 1990. Due to his language skills, he worked as a manager in the "Office for External Relations". In 1992 he traveled to Lebanon. There he received his first brief training in weapons and ideology at the "Mahsum Korkmaz Academy", which was closed that same year. Sincer then went to Northern Iraq and participated in the "Southern War" there. A comrade and friend of Sincer's died in the fighting. Sincer himself was slightly injured. He rose quickly within the PKK hierarchy and received different ranks: Squad leader and area manager in the mountainous region of Cudi . At the 6th Party Congress in February 1999 he was appointed a member of the Central Committee. Subsequently he was responsible for the Gabar and Mardin areas . At the extraordinary party congress after Öcalan's arrest , he was confirmed as a member of the Central Committee. His area of activity in the years 2000–2002 was in Europe. There he was a member of the leadership of the PKK successor organization KADEK and a member of the executive council of the "National Kurdistan Congress" (KNK).
death
Sincer returned to Northern Iraq in August 2003. Only 15 days after his return he died there under unknown circumstances. The organization initially hid his death. The Turkish daily Hürriyet , which was the first to report about it almost three weeks later, spoke of an internal settlement and an execution because Sincer wanted to benefit from an amnesty law . The autopsy also showed that Sincer was hit by two bullets. The PKK then stated that it was an accident as a result of gun salutes or ricochets.
