English Chess Federation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The English Chess Federation (abbreviation ECF , German: "English Chess Federation") is the umbrella organization for chess players in England . It is a member of the world chess federation FIDE and represents the English counterpart to the German Chess Federation (DSB).

The ECF emerged in 2005 from the former British Chess Federation (BCF, German: "British Chess Federation"), which was founded in 1904. The BCF, in turn, emerged from the transformation of the British Chess Association (BCA, German: "British Chess Association"), which functioned unsatisfactorily and originally included England as well as Wales and Northern Ireland . Currently, however, chess in Scotland , Wales, Ireland and the Channel Islands is organized by their own umbrella organizations, while the ECF is solely responsible for England.

The ECF publishes the chess magazine Chess Moves , which is free for members.
