Enn Nõu

Enn Nõu (born October 2, 1933 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian writer .

life and work

Enn Nõu was born as the son of the Estonian agronomist Joosep Nõu (1906–1999). In 1944 the family fled to Sweden before the approaching Red Army . From 1953 to 1961 Enn Nõu studied medicine at Uppsala University . He then worked as a pulmonologist. From 1979 Enn Nõu was a PhD lecturer at the Medical Faculty of Uppsala University. In 1957 he married the Estonian writer in exile Helga Nõu (née Razier , * 1934).

Enn Nõu was one of the leading organizers of the Estonian community in Sweden. He was also known as a writer. In his naturalistic and detailed prose he also took a political position against the Soviet Union and the Soviet occupation of Estonia . Only later did Enn Nõu turn to universal problems. In 1999/2000 Enn Nõu was the last chairman of the Estonian Association of Writers ( Estonian Välismaine Eesti Kirjanike Liit ) before its dissolution.
