Enoch is a funeral doom band founded in 2001 .

history

After the end of the Milanese band Ras Algethi , the Ras Algethi drummer Silvio took part in various mostly unsuccessful project initiations until he founded the band Enoch with Lorenzo Ottolenghi, Leonardo and Daniele in 2001. After a year of rehearsals, the band released their first demo in 2002 with Enuma Elish La Nabu Shamu and participated in the compilation Chariots Arrive Again Vol. 2 by Foreshadow Productions . In summer 2004 the band started a new recording process which resulted in the self- publishing of the EP Tetragrammaton . While the demo received wide positive feedback, the EP was hardly noticed. A promised label contract was canceled at short notice by the potential contract partner and various personal difficulties of the musicians led to further delays in the band's activity. After recording and releasing another promotional single, the band signed a deal with Satanath Records for the production of the 2013 album Sumerian Chants . The album was well received internationally. After the album was released, the band was reshuffled several times in January 2019, only the singer and guitarist Lorenzo Ottolenghi remained of the original lineup of the band. The guitarist Giulia, the drummer Andrea and the bassist Maks were named as further members.

style

The music of Enoch is assigned to the Funeral Doom . The webzine Doom-Metal.com describes the band as "Dark Funeral Doom Band," which is based on an occult sound. As a comparison, reference is made to Skepticism . The musicians themselves name primary groups of this genre such as Unholy , Thergothon , Esoteric and Skepticism as influences. In interviews, Ottolenghi also named Celtic Frost , Kreator , Bathory , Darkthrone and early Katatonia as inspiration.

Mike Liassides confirmed Darkthrone and Celtic Frost as a noticeable influence in his review written for Doom-Metal.com. This becomes particularly evident in guitar playing and occasionally in fast drum passages and the guttural croak and screeching singing . In contrast to such bands, however, Enoch integrated the keyboard as a "central and iconic" element of the music. Here, “airy and often orchestral melodies” are combined with the riffing of Black Metal, as well as the croaking and chanting of Black Metal with clear vocals.
