The Enrico Fermi Institute (EFI) is an institute of the University of Chicago . It was founded in 1945 under the name The Institute for Nuclear Studies . The physicist Samuel Allison became the first director of the institute in 1946, which was renamed The Enrico Fermi Institute for Nuclear Studies on November 20, 1955 .
