Ensemble Micrologus

Ensemble Micrologus is an Italian music group that specializes in the music of the Middle Ages in historical performance practice .

History and style

Ensemble Micrologus was founded in 1984. It was named after a music theory work from the 11th century, the Micrologus . The founding members knew each other through their many years of participation in the Calendimaggio Medieval Festival in Assisi , Italy. Founding members were:

Other project-related members of the ensemble are Mauro Borgioni (vocals, cymbals ), Gabriele Miracle (psaltery, tambourine ), Ulrich Pfeifer (vocals, hurdy-gurdy ) and Enea Sorini (vocals, percussion, psaltery). The repertoire of Ensemble Micrologus includes religious and secular pieces of music from the period between the 12th and 16th centuries. The group plays on reconstructions of old instruments and also uses contemporary costumes and stage decorations. The group also teaches medieval music in various educational institutions and in the ensemble's own cultural center, Centro Studi Europeo di Musica Medievale Adolfo Broegg . In 1991 the Ensemble Micrologus created the soundtrack for the film Mediterraneo .
