In 1977 Hans Ganser, Rainer Herpichböhm and Heinz Schwamm founded the ensemble. In 1981 Sabine Lutzenberger joined as a singer. She quit as a permanent member in 2000, but is still available to the ensemble. The ensemble builds its own instruments and includes various fiddles , rebabs , lutes , chitarra saracenica , psalteries , gothic harps , hurdy-gurdy , recorders , shawms and percussion .
