The Enstrom F-28 is a helicopter from the US company Enstrom Helicopter Corporation that is powered by a piston engine.

history

The Enstrom F-28 was designed by Rudolph J. Enstrom , had its maiden flight on November 12, 1960 and was approved by the FAA on April 15, 1965 . The types 280FX and F28F produced by Enstrom are, according to their own statements, the only helicopters in which piston engines with turbochargers are used. For the standard equipment of the Enstrom F-28, the new price in 1966 was about 32,750  USD and in 2009 about 400,000 USD, for the Enstrom 280 in 1975 about 63,000 USD and in 2009 about 400,000 USD.

construction

As with all Enstrom helicopters, the swashplate is not visible from the outside under the main gearbox; the rotor blades are controlled by push rods through the hollow rotor mast. The fully articulated three-bladed main rotor is made of all-metal, a 2-bladed tail rotor serves as torque compensation . The aircraft engine is an air-cooled Lycoming O-360 four- cylinder boxer engine with turbocharger that delivers 225 SHP . The cabin of the Enstrom F-28 and 280FX offers space for two to three occupants as well as the pilot, the seat configuration can be individually adjusted. The landing gear is equipped with four OLEO - shock absorbers fitted.

The difference between the F-28 and 280 FX is that the F-28 has the larger cabin and the 280 FX is more aerodynamic and therefore slightly faster. Otherwise, both models have identical performance.
