The Entrepôts de Moulis (EDM) is a wine warehouse in the Moulis that was originally run by the Petit-Laroche family in Bordeaux . The "Entrepôts de Moulis" belongs to the Château Maucaillou , which is now run by the Dourthe family.

history

The Petit-Laroche family of wine merchants originally had their headquarters at 104 du cours Saint-Louis in Bordeaux. In 1871 she had the cellars and warehouse "Entrepôts de Moulis" built in the middle of the Médoc next to the Moulis train station. The proximity to the train station was chosen deliberately, as the horse-drawn carts did not have to drive far from Moulis to load the wine into railroad cars. From there the wine was exported to many European countries.

The large stone building had an area of 3000 m². It was equipped with the most modern facilities of the time. A wide corridor ran around the building, the warehouse could only be entered through double side doors that formed a lock. Each compartment had flapped vents to make it easier for the gases to vent. Vats with a capacity of 180,000 liters were housed in the spacious cellars, space was provided for 30,000 bottles and 9,000 barrels.

In 1875 J. Petit-Laroche married and gave his bride a house opposite the cellars, today's Château Maucaillou . The construction company Frères Marian from Moulis carried out the construction work. The architectural style of the Château is a mixture of several architectural styles from the Renaissance and the Baroque, a typical architecture for many wineries in the Médoc of the time.

J. Petit-Laroche planted a new vineyard on 1.5 hectares in the districts of Maucaillou and Caubet , which he gave the brand name Maucaillou. The origin of the name Maucaillou means "bad stones". This district name probably came from the Middle Ages . Gravelly soils were not considered suitable for growing grain . However, it turned out over time that it could be used all the better for wine growing. Since 1889, Macaillou wine has repeatedly achieved a leading position. However, despite its quality, Maucaillou could not be classified as a Grand Cru Classé , as the classification had been established since 1855, but the property was not built until 1875. From 1889, the wine repeatedly received awards at blind tastings. It even found its way to the Viennese court. The Petit Laroche & Co. family of wine merchants, as owners of the company "Entrepôts de Moulis", received the title of imperial purveyor to the court .

After the First World War , the brothers Roger (1900–1984) and André Dourthe (1901–1975) acquired the Caves et Entrepôts de Moulis in 1929. At the same time, they also became owners of Château Maucaillou.

The Entrepôts de Moulis is now a service company of the Notables de Maucaillou for the storage and bottling of wines and their dispatch all over the world. In 2011, the company was run by the sixth generation of the Dourthe family. In 2006 Pascal Dourthe took over the management of Château Maucaillou from his father Jean Philippe (born August 15, 1941 in Bordeaux) and is supported by his sisters Caroline and Magali.
