The Waste Management Company Simmering Ges. Mb H. , EbS for short , was founded in 1976 by the City of Vienna , which is still the company's sole shareholder today. The company's around 165 employees now deal with the purification of all of Vienna's wastewater .

In 1980 the main sewage treatment plant in Vienna (11th Haidequerstraße 7) and the hazardous waste and sewage sludge treatment (11th Haidequerstraße 6) went into operation. In the same year, EbS took over the management of hazardous waste, sewage sludge treatment and incineration and in 1986 the management of the main sewage treatment plant. From 1997 (approval process) to 2005, the main sewage treatment plant was greatly expanded. In 2000, sewage sludge, hazardous waste treatment and incineration were split off and integrated into the Vienna district heating plant as the Simmeringer Haide plant, which was already operating the waste incineration plants . Since 2010 the company has been called ebswien Hauptkläranlage Ges.mbH
