Epagoge grotiana is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of Winder (Tortricidae).
features
Epagoge grotiana has a wingspan of about 15 millimeters. The forewings have an ocher yellow basic color. There are two large brown spots on the front wing edge of the forewing and another large brown spot between them on the rear wing edge. The opposing spots can touch. In a sitting position, the four inner spots "merge" into a broad band. All six spots sometimes suggest an X-shaped pattern. In the basal and submarginal regions there are smaller brown spots that form several rows of dots running across the body when sitting. The hind wings are colored dark beige.
distribution
Epagoge grotiana is located in the Palearctic . The species is found in much of Europe, including the British Isles.
Way of life
The typical habitat of Epagoge grotiana is made up of deciduous forests. The butterflies fly in June and July. They are mainly active during twilight. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of various trees and shrubs, especially oak , hawthorns and blackberries .
