Epiphanios of Constantinople
Epiphanios († June 5, 535 in Constantinople ) was Patriarch of Constantinople from 520 to 535.
The earliest mention of Epiphanios is as the person in charge of the catechumens in Constantinople. Before being elected patriarch, he was presbyter and synkellos of his predecessor. On February 25, 520 he was elected patriarch by Emperor Justin I with the consent of the bishops, monks and the people. A letter from the Synod to Patriarch (Pope) Hormisdas of Rome describes him as “keeping the right faith and looking after the orphans with fatherly care”.
There is an exchange of letters from Epiphanius with Hormisdas, which dealt with the final settlement of the Akacian schism of 484/485 between Rome and Constantinople, which his predecessor John II Kappadokes had ended together with Hormisdas, and dealing with monophysitism .
Epiphanios is a saint of the Orthodox Church , his feast day is the day of his death, June 6th .
