Epiphragma ocellare is a mosquito from the family of wilts (Limoniidae).
features
The mosquitoes reach a body length of 10 to 13 millimeters. Her body is beige-black in color. The mesonotum has strong bristles. The wings of the mosquitoes have a species-specific and unmistakable black pattern. A circular drawing can be seen near the wing tip. The wing length is 9.5-12.5 mm. The wings have an additional cross vein between Costa and Subcosta (Sc). The legs are colored beige. the femora have two dark circles near the apical end.
distribution
The species is native to the Palearctic . It occurs in large parts of Europe. It is only missing on the Iberian Peninsula . In western Canada, in the province of British Columbia , the species was apparently introduced.
Way of life
The typical habitat of the mosquito species are moist forests. The adults are observed from the beginning of May to the beginning of June. The larvae develop in dead wood .
