The Epiphragmophoridae are a family from the suborder of land snails (Stylommatophora). The family is limited to South America. Almost 40 recent species have been described so far. The oldest forms are known from the Upper Miocene ( Neogene ).

features

The housings are spherical to low-conical. The last turn is elliptical in many species to the inside and outside. Shortly before the confluence, the turn usually drops sharply from the turn plane; the mouth rim can also be modified. The mouth is very oblique to the winding plane. The shell is relatively thin. The love arrow sack sits on the vagina; it only contains a simple, conical love arrow. There are two, rarely just one, mucous gland. A diverticulum is missing.

Occurrence, way of life and distribution

The species of the family occur exclusively in the Andean area of South America ( Chile , Argentina , Bolivia , Peru and Brazil ). They live there both in warm, humid rainforests ( Yungas ) on the eastern slope of the Andes and in dry, warm areas in the higher regions of the Andes.
