Epiphyllum pumilum is a species of plant in the genus Epiphyllum from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet pumilum means '(Latin pumilus) dwarf'.

description

Epiphyllum pumilum grows semi-upright to pendulous with shoots up to 5 meters long . The main shoots are round at the base, flattened above and leaf-like. The side shoots are mostly flattened, 2.5 to 9 centimeters wide and narrow towards the tip. Except for the edges, they are wavy.

The fragrant creamy white flowers are 10 to 15 centimeters long. The reddish, ribbed fruits are covered with small reddish scales.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Epiphyllum pumilum is distributed in southern Mexico as well as in Guatemala and Belize at altitudes up to 1670 meters. The first description by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose was published in 1913.

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
