The Erbgrind or Favus (also tinea favosa , Favus mushroom , razor grind , honeycomb head grind ) is a communicable, often familial, chronic fungal disease dermatophytosis , which is characterized by relatively deep penetration of the pathogen into the hair follicle. The pathogen is the dermatophyte Trichophyton schoenleinii described by the Würzburg professor Johann Lukas Schönlein . The disease is now rare in Central Europe.
Clinically, the disease manifests itself primarily in the area of the scalp hair through firmly adhering, yellowish-brownish flaking. This "tag" ( scutula ) are lens size and consist of the hair follicles surrounding mycelium .
Treatment is through antifungal drugs such as griseofulvin .
