Trichophyton schoenleinii is askin fungus that colonizesthe horny substance and primarily affects humans ( anthropophilic dermatophyte ). The teleomorph is unknown. It was identified by Robert Remak at the suggestion of Johann Lukas Schönlein as the cause of the hereditary grind . The mycelium gives affected hair dark sections due to the "cavity effect" so that they look banded with black. As a rule, the hair does not break off.

Culture

Trichophyton schoenleinii grows slowly on nutrient media with a waxy, moist consistency and radial folds. The top and bottom are yellowish-gray. The hyphae branch out through bifurcation (dichotomous), some of which form patterns reminiscent of a chandelier. One- to three-cell microconidia are formed on moist rice grains, while macroconidia almost never.
