The Erbpachtmühle Langenholzhausen (also called Landlord Mill Langenholzhausen ) is a watermill in the Langenholzhausen district of the Lippe municipality of Kalletal in North Rhine-Westphalia . The mill building with weir and water channel is a listed building.

history

The mill in Langenholzhausen has its origins in a watermill built around 1500 that was owned by the de Wend family of knights. After the death of the mill owner Simon de Wend in 1548, there were long disputes between the de Wends heirs and the then sovereign Bernhard VII zur Lippe. In 1561 Bernhard VII finally took possession of the mill by force. As the property of the Lippe sovereigns, the mill was expanded and from 1561 to 1909 it was a so-called “sovereign mill”, which was handed over to the respective miller on a temporary or long-term lease. From 1909 until the mill was shut down in 1997, the building was again privately owned by various master millers. In the end there was a restaurant in the mill.

On the morning of July 9, 2015, the building was badly damaged by fire. The monument protection remains in place for the remaining parts of the building.

Buildings and equipment

The mill building is essentially a late medieval quarry stone building which was expanded by the Lemgo master builder Herrmann Wulff on behalf of the Lippe ruler in 1568 . As part of the expansion, the building got a richly decorated half-timbered gable. Above the arch of the main entrance there is a lion's head carved in stone and the year 1568. Below the half-timbered gable is a stone coat of arms of Count Simon VI. to the lip. At times the mill had up to four water wheels, each of which was used to drive a grinding process . Among other things, rye and wheat were ground in the mill, and peas, beans, barley and malt were ground. At times, a threshing machine, a flax cleaning machine and a circular saw were driven with the help of water power. Today the mill only has a water wheel.
