Erdi-Ma

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Erdi-Ma is a rocky plateau in the Sahara . It is located in northeastern Chad in the border region with Libya and Sudan .

The first and, until 2005, only scientific expedition to this remote area was undertaken in 1923 by Ahmed Pasha Hassanein , an Oxford student who had also participated in the 1920 Olympic Games as a fencer for Egypt .

At the end of 2005, a new exploration of the area took place under the direction of the geographer and climate researcher Stefan Kröpelin . He was accompanied by a team of scientists, a television team from ZDF and the writer Raoul Schrott . This first scientific exploration was undertaken within the framework of the Collaborative Research Center 389 on cultural and landscape change in arid Africa of the German Research Foundation at the University of Cologne .
