Earth vision

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is still a view of the earth, possibly not further back when the cloud cover closes there

Sight of the surface ( English ground in sight ) means in the flyer language that from the cockpit of a flying aircraft , the surface visible underneath so not by clouds or fog is covered.

In a broader sense - analogous to flight visibility - under earth vision , the visibility in the direction of the ground or the flight altitude from which the ground becomes visible during descent. Is something quite different, however, the bottom view ( English ground visibility ), whereby the horizontal Visibility on a airfield is referred to.

Significance for aviation

The ground view is of particular importance in visual flight , where the ground, especially the visible horizon, is the most important point of reference for maintaining the correct flight position . Navigation based purely on sight using ground features is also not possible without a view of the earth. During flights at low altitudes, such as when approaching a landing , visibility of the earth is also a prerequisite for reliably maintaining safety distances from aviation obstacles.

In certain airspace classes , visual flights may only be carried out with a view of the earth (see Visual Meteorological Conditions ).
