Erdve is a post-metal band from Lithuania, founded in 2016 .
history
Erdve was founded in 2016 by Vaidotas Darulis, Valdas Voveraitis, Kristijonas Nenartavičius and Karolis Urbanavičius in Vilnius . The members of the group were previously active in various bands of the local post-hardcore and metal scene . After Erdve recorded a first demo tape in 2017 and distributed it to the scene, the band played a few local concerts while the demo enabled the band to sign a contract with the French label Season of Mist . The new recording of the demo was released via Season of Mist in February 2018 as Vaitojima's debut album . Vaitojimas was rated moderate to positive by reviewers.
style
The group calls their style "Experimental Hardcore Sludge". In some reviews, the term sludge is used . Most of the time, this term is used as part of a style hybrid on an equal footing with other influences such as hardcore punk and black metal . The band also tries to make an appropriate reference to these musical styles in their press release. Further reviews assign the music to post-metal and post-hardcore. Meredith Schmiedeskamp from the music magazine Rock Hard draws comparisons to the genre representatives Neurosis , Cult of Luna and Dodecahedron . Thomas Sonder from Metal Hammer on the other hand to Gigandhi .
According to Schmiedeskamp, the music is characterized by "sluggish rhythms and deep guitar walls, against which distorted melodies and angry roars in the Lithuanian language fight". Further reviews confirm this impression and describe guitar playing as riff-heavy , dissonant and brutal . Meanwhile, the gutturally bellowed vocals are described as vicious and placed close to hardcore punk. The texts in the national language are sometimes ascribed to an increased fascination due to an expanded scope for interpretation. The rhythm is praised as tough and suction-like, on the other hand, criticized as uniform and flat.
