Erfurt bell was the common name in Hanover for a circular stone setting on the so-called dog market , which was laid out from the middle of the 18th century as the center of the Aegidienneustadt built by Mayor Christian Ulrich Grupen .

Originally this circle, formed from stones - and later expanded - is said to have coincided with the circumference of the Gloriosa, which was cast around the same time : According to legend , the bell jumped from the wagon during transport and pressed deep into the ground, with its circular shape in the ground Imprint should have been created.

To commemorate the legend, an inn at the dog market still bore the name "Erfurt Glocke" at the end of the 1920s.
