Erhard Meyer

Erhard Meyer (born December 7, 1942 ) is a former German football player who played in 1966 for FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the top division of GDR football , the GDR Oberliga .

Athletic career

Coming from the company sports association (BSG) Empor Ilmenau , Erhard Meyer played his first high-class football games at Motor Rudisleben in the 1964/65 season . Of the 30 matches played in the second-rate GDR league , he completed 27 games and with his 13 goals immediately became his team's top scorer. At the end of the season Rudisleben was relegated to the district league . After the winter break of the 1965/66 season, Meyer moved to the upper division FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt . There he was called up three times for unusable strikers at the beginning of the second half of the season, but was no longer used afterwards. Since the FC Rot-Weiß then relegated, Meyer found himself in the GDR league in 1966/67. There he was able to establish himself as a regular player, because of the 30 league games he played 21 games, scored seven goals and was mainly involved in the immediate resurgence of the Erfurt team. In the following seasons, Meyer was always represented in the regular eleven, only in 1970/71 he had a few failures, so that he was absent from nine league games. In 1968 he was appointed to the B national team and played an international match with her. In the encounter between the GDR and Poland (1-0), he came on as a right striker in the 54th minute. When Rot-Weiß Erfurt had to play in the GDR league again in 1971/72 after relegation again, Meyer was the only player who played all 22 point games and eight promotion games and was again a guarantee for promotion with his eleven goals. After the end of the 1973/74 season, Erhard Meyer ended his career as a professional footballer after completing 145 league games with 13 goals and 70 GDR league games with 31 goals within ten seasons. He was mainly used as a striker. Meyer ended his football career at BSG Chemie Geraberg.
