Erhard W. Fischer

Erhard Wolfgang Fischer (born February 16, 1929 in Wiederau ; † March 13, 2011 ) was a German physicist .

Erhard Fischer was a student at the Königin-Carola-Gymnasium in Leipzig . He studied physics and received his doctorate from the TH Stuttgart in 1957 . In 1962 he completed his habilitation at the University of Mainz . After numerous stays abroad, especially in the USA , he was professor of physical chemistry at the University of Mainz from 1966 to 1987.

He was one of the founding directors of the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz. From 1983 until his retirement in 1997 he was director of the department of polymer physics.

Fischer has carried out significant basic research in the field of plastics. He has received numerous honors, including the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , the American Physical Society, and the Japanese Society of Polymer Science. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of San Sebastian .
