Eric Barreto , actually Eric Paez Barreto Gomes , also Erick, Erik or Erico, stage name Diana Finsk , (* 1962 in Garanhuns , State of Pernambuco , Brazil ; † May 20, 1996 in São Paulo , Brazil) was a Brazilian travesty artist and actor who is considered the most important Brazilian travesty artist at all and a famous Carmen Miranda impersonator worldwide.

Career

From the end of the 1980s, Eric Barreto appeared under the name Diana Finsk as a travesty artist throughout Brazil. He gained first notoriety through appearances on television, including broadcasts by Hebe Camargo . There he also sang in French and imitated Carmen Miranda and Evita Peron , among others , by performing in military clothing with the Argentine flag and singing Don't Cry for Me Argentina from the musical "Evita". He turned from a man into a woman during the performance and developed his own style in the process. He imitated Carmen Miranda so well that he was soon considered the best impersonator of the singer and was often indistinguishable from the original. With the performance of the Miranda song Cai Cai Cai , he became best known as the Miranda parodist. Throughout his life he remained friends with Carmen Miranda's sister, Aurora Miranda.

In 1995 he took part in a documentary film about the life of Carmen Miranda, "Bananas is my busissness", in which he embodied her. In January 1996 an article appeared in Der Spiegel magazine , which reported on Carmen Miranda, the documentary and shows a picture of Barreto on the beach in Rio . Four months later, the homosexual man died of AIDS and was buried as requested in the crypt of his idol Carmen Miranda.
