Eric Dunning

Eric Geoffrey Dunning ( December 27, 1936 - February 10, 2019 ) was a British sociologist and professor emeritus from the University of Leicester . He was one of the most important students of Norbert Elias , with whom he worked for decades. He applied his methods from the sociology of figuration to investigations into the historical development of sport, leisure and violence. Dunning was one of the pioneers in sports sociology .
