from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eric Jean-Paul Urban is a French mathematician who studies algebraic number theory and arithmetic geometry.

Urban received his doctorate in 1995 under Jacques Tilouine at the University of Paris-Süd in Orsay (Arithmétique des formes automorphes pour GL (2) sur un corps imaginaire quadratique). He is a professor at Columbia University .

In the Iwasawa theory , he and Christopher Skinner announced a proof of the main conjecture for GL (2) in 2002, which was published as a preprint in 2010 and appeared in 2014.

In 2011 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study . In 2006 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians with Skinner (Vanishing of L-functions and ranks of Selmer groups).
