Eric Weik (born November 2, 1970 in Stuttgart ) is a German manager, general manager of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Middle Ruhr Area based in Bochum and former mayor of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Wermelskirchen .

Live and act

On April 15, 2015, the general assembly of the IHK Middle Ruhr Area appointed Eric Weik as general manager. On November 2nd, 2015 - his 45th birthday - Weik took over his new job. In an intensive and complex discussion process with all employees of the house and the honorary office of the IHK, he developed a new organizational structure that has been implemented since March 15, 2017. Quintessence: All employees work together across fields of competence - a departure from the usual multi-pillar model of an IHK. The next step followed on December 7, 2017: At the initiative of Weiks, the IHK's plenary meeting decided on a new voluntary structure that aims to encourage companies to participate more closely in the IHK. Both changes are attracting attention at the DIHK and the German chambers.

Since March 3, 2017, Weik has been chairman of the “Association for the Support of Qualification and Training of Immigrants (QuAZ)”. Behind this is a broad social alliance in the four cities of Bochum, Herne, Witten and Hattingen, which Weik initiated in the previous months and wants to enable immigrants to integrate into the training and labor market. From this alliance a "language and qualification center for immigrants" has developed, which started its work in September 2017 in the former Opel training workshop in Bochum. In the past three years, around 1,500 women and men with an immigrant background have received entry-level qualifications for training or a job. At the same time, German language and German culture are conveyed in the QuAZ with a strong differentiation as important building blocks for integration. It is the most successful project for the integration of immigrants in Germany.

Professional background

Weik did his Abitur in Stuttgart and studied law in Tübingen and Bonn. After passing the first state examination in law , he received a law degree from the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn in 2001 .

In Reutlingen he gained his first professional experience over several years as an assistant to the management of a textile company.

As a project manager and authorized signatory, he switched to a medium-sized medical consulting company in Cologne in 2000, which he ran from 2002 to 2004 as sole managing director.

In addition, he was a member of the board of the Association for the Relief of Social and Human Need in the newly emerging Eastern European Democracies eV (NOD) , for which he planned and carried out relief supplies to Romania, among other things.

Mayor's office

Eric Weik, who sat on the federal board of the Young Liberals for a few years, stood for election as mayor of the city of Wermelskirchen in autumn 2004. With a clear majority, he was able to assert himself against the incumbent as a joint candidate of the parliamentary groups of FDP, Bürgerforum, WNK and UWG. He took over the post on October 11, 2004.

For the local elections on August 30, 2009 , he stood for election again. Again as a joint candidate of the FDP, Bürgerforum and WNK, he was elected mayor a second time with a result of 62.5 percent. On February 25, 2015, he announced that he would not stand again.
