Eric Wiebes

Eric Wiebes (born March 12, 1963 in Delft ) is a Dutch politician of the People's Party for Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD). Since October 2017 he has been Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate in the Rutte III cabinet .

Life

Wiebes studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Delft and later earned the academic degree Master of Business Administration (MBA). After completing his studies, he worked for Shell from 1987 to 1989 . He then worked as a consultant at McKinsey (1990–1992) and then at OC&C Strategy Consultants (1993–2004), of which he had been a partner since 1996. In 1983 he became a member of the VVD. He was a member of that party's economic committee. From 2004 to 2010 he worked in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, in the last three years as Deputy Secretary General.

From 2010 to 2014 he was an alderman for transport in the Amsterdam City Council for his party . Among other things, he dealt with the “ Noord / Zuidlijn ”, air quality and ICT. From February 2014 to October 2017 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance in the Rutte II cabinet .
