Carola Nitschke (born March 1, 1962 in Berlin , after marrying Carola Beraktschjan ) is a former swimmer who competed for the GDR . Beraktschjan is a victim of state-prescribed doping in GDR competitive sports .

Career

Carola Nitschke from SC Dynamo Berlin won the title on both chest distances at the GDR championships in 1976 ahead of Hannelore Anke , with Nitschke improving the world record over 100 meters chest in 1: 11.93 minutes. Together with Monika Seltmann , Andrea Pollack and Barbara Krause , she also won the tier relay and set a new world record in 4: 13.41 minutes.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , which took place six weeks after the GDR championships, the GDR single-layer relay swam the best time in 4: 13.98 in the lead-up with Birgitreiber , Carola Nitschke, Rosemarie Gabriel and Andrea Pollack. In the final, Ulrike Richter , Hannelore Anke, Andrea Pollack and Kornelia Ender swam a new world record in 4: 07.95 minutes and won with over six seconds ahead of the US relay. Three days later, three Soviet swimmers won the medals over 200 meters chest in front of three GDR swimmers, Carola Nitschke took sixth place. Another three days later, Hannelore Anke won the gold medal over 100 meters breaststroke, after she had already improved the world record in the preliminary and in the semi-finals; behind Hannelore Anke and two Soviet swimmers, Carola Nitschke took fourth place.

At the GDR championships in 1977 , Carola Nitschke took second place over 100 meters chest behind Ramona Reinke . The layer relay of SC Dynamo Berlin with the line-up Birgit Matz , Nitschke, Pollack and Krause defended the title from the previous year. In the 1977 European Aquatics Championships won Julija Bogdanova over both breast distances over 100 meters Carola Nitschke received the silver medal and Ramona Reinke bronze. The GDR layer relay with Ulrike Richter, Carola Nitschke, Andrea Pollack and Barbara Krause won the European championship title before the Soviet relay. In 1978 and 1979 Carola Nitschke won the GDR championship title twice with the Berlin layer relay.

In 1998, the now married Carola Beraktschjan appeared in court as a witness against her former trainer and accused him of administering anabolic steroids. The court ruled the doping as bodily harm and sentenced the former coach to a fine.
