Eric von Hippel

Eric von Hippel (born August 27, 1941 ) is an economist and professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management specializing in the principles and economics of distributed innovation and so-called "open innovation". He became known for his concept of "user innovation", which shows that end users and not producers are to a large extent responsible for innovations. To describe this phenomenon, he introduced the term “ lead user ”.

His work is used in business strategies or free and open source - software .
