life and career

After completing his training as a chemist, Erich Breinsberg followed his passion for automobiles and joined the Alfred Liewers dealership in 1960. In 1966 he made his debut on a Formula V -Eigenkonstruktion, 1967, he drove in Kaimann team of Kurt Bergmann together with Dieter Quester , in the following year with Helmut Marko . 1969 formed Niki Laudaand Erich Breinsberg the Kaimann team. Breinsberg's breakthrough came this year by winning the Austrian championship ahead of Niki Lauda. In 1970 he won the European Cup for the Kaimann team and again the Austrian championship. For the Kaimann team, winning the European Cup was the culmination and conclusion of Formula Vee 1300. From then on, Kurt Bergmann devoted himself entirely to the stronger and faster successor series, Formula Super Vee 1600.

In 1971 the first race for the Kaimann Super V team was the Trans Atlantic Challenge. The annual USA - Europe match took place at Daytona Speedway in the USA. Erich Breinsberg in the Kaimann Super V was the first European to win this race. In the same year he won the Super V gold cup European championship for the Kaimann team. Breinsberg ended his active racing career on a Brabham BT21 V8. With this car he was runner-up in the Austrian mountain championship in 1971 and 1972 . He later drove several record attempts for the Volkswagen factory, which were crowned with a 6-hour world record.

After the death of the founders, the focus at the Liewers dealership was on company restructuring. Monika, the niece of Mimi Liewers, fought for several years to save the company and keep it family-owned. Breinsberg initially worked as a department head and was appointed to the board of Liewers AG in 1995. As a result, he gradually expanded and renovated the company and expanded the company to include two branches. After a company reorganization, Breinsberg is now managing director of Autohaus Liewers GmbH and Liewers Holding.

Due to his enthusiasm for 20th century art, Breinsberg put together a selection of metal sculptures for a foundation. He dealt particularly intensively with the work of Franz Hagenauer , on which he has published a paper. There has been contact with the sculptor's family for decades.
