Erich Jacoby
Erich Jacoby (born June 4 . Jul / 16th June 1885 greg. In Tallinn , Estonia ; † 10. December 1941 in Gdynia, today Gdynia , Poland ) was a Baltic German architect.
Life
Erich Roman Ludwig Jacoby studied from 1905 to 1907 at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover . In 1913 he graduated from the Riga Polytechnic (now Riga Technical University ) with a degree in architecture . He then worked as an architect in Tallinn.
Jacoby left Estonia in 1939 during the resettlement of the Baltic Germans ordered by Hitler .
Architectural work
Erich Jacoby is best known for his numerous buildings in Tallinn. His early work is influenced by Expressionism and Art Nouveau . In the 1930s he was heavily committed to functionalism .
His most famous realized works include:
- English college in Tallinn (together with Aleksander Rosenberg ), 1916
- Tallinn, Wismari 11, an exemplary house for Estonia at the time: baroque-style windows, influences of expressionism and echoes of traditional Estonian construction with a gable roof
- Church of Adventistengemeinde , Merepuiestee 3, Tallinn (1923)
- Tallinn, Erikastrasse 1 (1939)
- Tallinn, Pärnu maantee 30 (1936)
- Tallinn, Väike-Karja tänav 7, functionalist house (1937, together with Herman Berg )
