Erich Kraut

Erich Kraut (born June 21, 1891 in Elberfeld , today Wuppertal ; † June 18, 1978 ibid) was a German entrepreneur who acquired a stationery shop in 1917 and from this the ELBA brand (formed from the names of the cities of Elberfeld and Barmen ) for office Organization created. In 1930 the industrial production of files began on the company's premises in Wuppertal-Elberfeld .

In 1933, Kraut invented the pendulum filing system, a variant of the hanging filing system that enables the folders to be hung horizontally on just one rail. In 1953 he developed the ELBA rado principle , which enables the file folder to snap into place through two slots and cams in the folder cover and makes the folder stable even when empty.

Twenty years after Kraut's death, the company trading as ELBA Büroysteme Erich Kraut GmbH & Co had to file for bankruptcy. The production site in Wuppertal was closed, but the business activities could be transferred to the newly founded ELBA Büroysteme Vertriebs GmbH, which today belongs to Groupe Hamelin .
